I don’t know if it’s lack of sleep, but I’m especially cranky today. I’m tired of seeing not-news and even less interesting posts about stuff that is barely even tangentially related to gaming flooding gaming (and non gaming!) sites. Can we all agree that this shit can just die now and people can come up with some new ideas?
The List of Things that Can Die Now:
- Game Cakes. No, seriously, you don’t have to stop making them. JUST STOP POSTING ABOUT THEM.
- Lego mini-figs of gaming characters.
- For that matter, Lego video games, period. Is it not obvious that it’s nothing but a cash cow at this point?
- Periodic Tables of anything that aren’t Elements.
- TF2 team mash/changeups.
Add your pet peeves to the comments. Let’s vent.

I must agree. Also motivational

Part of your problem is reading Kotaku. :) I’ve stopped doing so, and it’s been surprising how much of a difference it makes in whether I feel my time has been wasted.

Oh, agreed on the Kotaku thing. Unfortunately it’s like a trainwreck. I can’t NOT look.

I’m blown away by the amount of editorial previews that have been hitting the airwaves we don’t care what the writer thinks the game is going to be like, that’s why it’s a preview… Also, pretty much all non-gaming “news,” cosplay, anime, comic books and any other geeky hobbies that find a home on Kotaku… And, unreleted but still a cultural phenomenon, game reviews being more based on other game reviews (or being a response to) instead of the actual opinion of the reviewer. And yeah, I agree with the cake thing, kind of the game journo equivalent of a squirrel on a jetski.

lego mini-fig link appears to be broken.
Although, really, why are you linking these things if you want to stop them from perpetuating?

“Although, really, why are you linking these things if you want to stop them from perpetuating?”
1). I like proper netiquette. Link, always, unless someone is trolling for your linkage.
2). And as much as I would love to believe it, no amount of me not linking is going to stop this crap.

I’m sorry but that periodic table of typefaces is absolutely brilliant. Maybe you have to be a typography nerd to get it though. See also: The hilarious periodic table of Look Around You

I agree…with you and Michel.
Most of these memes…die.
The periodic tables…die.
EXCEPT typefaces. That’s great.

Motivational posters. Especially if the text on said poster appears in the original image.
I don’t mind gaming cakes as long as I can start saying the word “cake” without being told that said cake is a lie.

You’re on to something with the periodic tables and lego observations, but the cakes I really don’t mind. I wouldn’t call most of these “memes” really, save for the TF2 mashups/changeups. I can’t tell you how many of those I’ve seen.
