While I was on the phone with EA Customer Support last night ordering my second replacement guitar, the Customer Support rep gave me a very helpful piece of advice regarding replacement hardware:
By September 2008, they will no longer be honoring Rock Band 1 hardware extended warranties.
I don’t know if this was a known date, talked about when they initially decided to do the whole Rock Band extended hardware warranty thing or what, but I suspect that they are going to not honor any Rock Band 1 warranties because they want people to purchase Rock Band 2.
Will the Rock Band 2 equipment be better made? Will they need to even warranty it past 90 days?
Who knows. All I know is, if you’ve been sitting on a kinda-half-working Rock Band 1 guitar, send that thing in now (or at least before September rolls around) and get the new/refurbed one before it’s too late and you’re stuck with the busted ghetto controller forever.
Second interesting tidbit: If you need a second replacement music controller (after your first one, as I did), you have to call, and can’t use the website. I guess they’re trying to stop scammers or something? I’m not really sure how or why that works.
