How to Debate the Uneducated

March 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Clint demonstrates how it’s done with style:  Mr. Hocking challenges the head of the Canadian Teacher’s Federation (who wishes to ban Bully) to actually play Bully with him, and he’ll even buy her a 360 or Wii and a copy of the game.

Will she take him up on his offer?  I seriously hope so.  This is a page straight out of the Art of War:  turning your enemies into allies.

I especially like his approach of “don’t even argue with them; you assume a position of defense.”  I’ve used this regarding many topics in the past, and it’s an important stance to take.  You don’t argue with people who feel that women don’t deserve as much salary as men to do the same job.  You don’t argue with people who feel that a different race has less culture or rights than theirs.  You don’t argue with people who feel games are not a valid medium.

You’d be arguing with a dinosaur if you were.  It’s futile at best.  Better to educate the dinosaur so they can better appreciate the subject matter from a modern perspective, whenever possible.
